i'm sure there have been other atonement aus already written, but i distinctly remember being rather unimpressed by them. this, however.
my initial reaction was that sort of unfussed, considering that it was an atonement au, and most atonement aus tend to be both rewrites of the film (rather than the book, which i am both offended by and immensely happy about, because ian mcewan is most definitely not my cup of tea); but it was at the top of a flist, and so i figured i'd give it a go. and, my god, am i glad i did.
oh, erik. erik. the whole attraction to charles, and the way that he refused to acknowledge it was gloriously done; and charles' subsequent forcible initiation of their relationship was wonderful. my heart. it is wounded.
and the way you brought it shaw was perfect. i just - ugh. erik.
the ending was. i just. can i roll in this forever? with the isolated ignoring of the world and the war and the happiness forever omg.
